Individual Power Generation Systems in Brazil: the photovoltaic solar energy and the current legislation  04/05/2010
IEI-LA concluded in the end of 2009 two studies on Individual Power Generation Systems in Brazil: the photovoltaic solar energy and the current legislation.

Global Clean Cooking Fuels Initiative  02/08/2006
This is a new effort of the International Energy Initiative aimed at catalyzing a worldwide shift from solid cooking and heating fuels (biomass and coal) in developing countries to cleaner fluid fuels by 2020 with an emphasis on the poorest households gaining access to them.

Sustainable Energy Solutions in North and South  21/01/2008
This is a partnership project among International Energy Initiative (IEI), Tanzania Traditional Energy Development and Environment Organization (TaTEDO), and Sweco Grøner. The project is financially supported by the Norwegian Fredskorpset and it started in February 2003.

A sustainable electricity blueprint for Brazil  03/12/2006
With more aggressive policies for reducing power waste at both the production and the consumption level and promoting new renewable energy sources, Brazil could cut by 38% the projected power generation growth by 2020 – equal to a saving of 293 TWh, avoidance of 74.6 GW of installed capacity and a saving of US$ 15 billion. In turn, this would create up to 8 million new jobs and stabilise Brazil’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that contribute to global warming to 2004 levels by 2020. These are the main conclusions of the report "A sustainable electricity blueprint for Brazil"

Improved energy efficiency in a major Brazilian public hospital  02/08/2006
TThe IEI’s Latin American Regional Initiative office (REI-LA) is taking part in a two-year project aiming to retrofit the 27 year-old lighting and air-conditioning systems of a public hospital located at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) as well as evaluate its results. The project is funded by a local utility through the funds of its 1% charge for energy efficiency and R&D. UNICAMP has signed a performance contract with the utility. The first phase of the project retrofitted luminaries, fluorescent lights and reactors of the hospital’s second floor (approximately 40% of the total). The results achieved by its first phase can be summarized as: an energy consumption reduction of 45%, overall luminance improvement of 20%-35%, power factor increase from 0.6 to 0.97, payback reduction from 39 to 18 months and high enhancement on the end-user satisfaction.

Enhancement of learning environment via access to electricity in rural community  02/08/2006
A pilot project to improve both schooling and access to electricity in two schools of Cananéia has been initiated. The schools are located in the Cardoso Island State Park, whose access to electricity is provided by small stand-alone PV systems. The overall aim of the project is to improve the quality of education. Increased access to electricity, enabled through the installation of a low-cost, small-scale wind turbine, will improve the lighting conditions as well as provide access to audiovisual teaching material and a refrigerator. The provision of these energy services will be followed up by capacity building and training of teachers.

Energy Library  02/08/2006
The library is an online collection of energy related books, articles, journals, manuals, CD-Roms and reports. Some of the documents are available for download.
